Overview

We have an excellent restorative dentistry staff at the Texas Center for Cosmetic Dentistry to help you with missing teeth. In our offices in Houston or The Woodlands, TX, we are committed to bringing you a dental bridge or partial dentures that is aesthetically pleasing as well as functional. Our Founding and Accredited Member of the AACD (American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry), Dr. Guy Lewis and his team of dentists offer attractive porcelain dental bridges to patients who are missing one or more of their natural teeth.

Traditional bridges are comprised of an artificial tooth or teeth that are secured into place by crowns attached to the natural teeth on either side of a gap. Bridges can also be stabilized by dental implants for a secure, lasting restoration. When our patient is missing one to several teeth in a row, we often recommend a fixed dental bridge, or partial (removable) denture. Dental bridges anchor an artificial tooth or teeth between two natural teeth for a lasting, beautiful smile. We can also provide implant-supported (partial) dentures for a tooth loss solution that does not anchor to your natural teeth. Learn about all your options at a dental consultation with Dr. Lewis and restore your smile and the functionality of your teeth with a dental bridge.

Treatment

Patients usually need to make two visits for their dental bridge procedure. During the first visit, the abutment teeth (anchors) are prepared by filing down the teeth to allow room for a crown to be placed over them. Impressions of the teeth are then made to help make the bridge in a dental laboratory. Patients will be provided with a temporary bridge to wear in order to protect their exposed teeth. During their second visit, the dentist will remove the temporary bridge and the custom-made bridge will be installed, checked, and adjusted as necessary. Patients may need to schedule multiple visits over the next few weeks to check the framework of the bridge as well as adjust the patient’s bite for comfort.

Bridge FAQs

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Men and women who have missing teeth are considered the best candidates for dental bridges. Missing teeth can lead to a number of dental and physical health concerns such as periodontal disease, TMJ disorder, and compromised chewing efficiency.

How Long Do Bridges Last?

With good oral hygiene and regular dentist visits, dental bridges last an average of 5 – 15 years, but some may last longer.

Special Care for Bridges?

It is important to maintain a healthy dental regimen to ensure the strength of the bridge and remaining teeth. This means brushing twice a day, daily flossing, and scheduling regular dental cleanings and exams.
