Tooth-Colored Fillings (Composite Cavity Fillings) – The Woodlands & Houston, TX

37 Services ( View All )

If you need to have a cavity filled by one of our board-certified cosmetic dentists, or if you would like an alternative to conspicuous metal (amalgam) fillings, tooth-colored fillings may be just the solution. At the Texas Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, we can match the material used to fill your teeth to your natural shade. The tooth-colored material will blend with the tooth and you can speak and laugh without having to worry about revealing a mouth full of metal fillings. Tooth-colored fillings have many health and aesthetic benefits. Unlike metal fillings, they do not contain any mercury, which makes them much safer than metal fillings. They also adhere more tenaciously to the tooth than metal fillings, which reduces the likelihood of return visits to have the filling repaired or replaced. The ceramic material does not stretch or shift, which eliminates or minimizes tooth sensitivity. Finally, these fillings provide a phenomenal cosmetic result. If you live near our office in Houston or The Woodlands, TX contact our office to learn more about how tooth-colored fillings may benefit you.

During the treatment process we will use resin or porcelain material for the filling and it will be shaded to match the color of the patient’s natural tooth. Once the area with tooth decay is cleaned, a filling will be created and bonded to the tooth. Typically, resin fillings can last at least 15 years if the patient practices good hygiene, including regular brushing and flossing.

Fillings FAQs

Will They Last?

If the patient practices good oral hygiene with brushing, flossing and professional teeth cleanings, tooth-colored fillings typically last for 15 years or longer.

Special Care for Fillings?

Although there are no special care instructions for tooth-colored fillings, it is important for patients to practice good oral hygiene to maintain their filling, as well as prevent any further damage to the teeth.  Patients are asked to brush and floss daily and schedule regular dental exams and cleanings.

Can I replace Metal Fillings?

Yes. If you would like to get rid of your metal fillings, we can remove the old filling and replace it with a tooth-colored filling. This is usually seen as a cosmetic dental treatment. Schedule a consultation with our dentist to learn more about the metal filling removal process.
