At-home whitening utilizes clear plastic trays to hold the bleaching gel against the teeth. The trays are custom crafted to fit snugly and comfortably. If you choose this option, you will simply visit our office in The Woodlands, TX to pick up your teeth whitening trays. Then, you will fill the trays with a medical-grade whitening gel and wear the trays overnight while you sleep. The gel, which is less potent than ZOOM!® whitening gel, gradually removes stains from the enamel. When worn as directed, at-home teeth whitening can provide beautiful results in as little as 2 weeks. Unlike over-the-counter teeth whitening products with a one-size-fits-all approach to whitening, our home teeth whitening kits are tailored for each patient to have a brighter smile.

At the office, the dentist will make molds of the patient’s teeth to create a custom-made dental tray. These trays protect the gums from the whitening gel, as contact may be harmful and it also minimizes discomfort and irritation during the treatment. Once at home, the patient will fill the tray with prescription strength whitening gel and leave in for a designated amount of time, typically 45 minutes, each day. Some patients may see visible results after one treatment, but most patients need 2 – 4 weeks to see their full results. 

Unlike over-the-counter teeth whitening products, home kits from the dentist use a higher quality and concentration of bleaching agent. Whitening kits from the dentist are also custom fit to the patient’s mouth, so they are more comfortable and whiten the teeth evenly.

Home teeth whitening kits are safe when patients follow all of the product instructions. The dentist may also have tips and recommendations to help the patient get their best results.

Home whitening treatments are usually worn for about 45 minutes a day, everyday, until the desired shade is achieved. Patients may use the kit for as little as one week or over a month. If the patient is not seeing the results they want, they should return to their dentist for other whitening options.
