Porcelain Crowns in Houston, TX

Overview

Do you have a tooth that is badly damaged, or a gap left by missing teeth that needs to be filled? A dental crown at the Texas Center for Cosmetic Dentistry in The Woodlands, TX may be an excellent solution. Porcelain crowns can be used to beautifully cover a natural tooth to protect a broken or discolored tooth, cover a tooth after root canal, or to anchor a dental bridge. Alternatively, a crown can be placed over a dental implant to fill the gap left by a missing tooth.

Modern crowns are made of beautiful tooth-colored porcelain that is amazingly natural-looking. We use layered feldspathic porcelain for our cosmetic crowns or IPS e.max®, 3M ESPE Lava™ crowns, or zirconia crowns. Our dentists do not provide porcelain-fused-to-metal or metal crowns. With proper upkeep, dental crowns can typically last at least 5 – 15 years however, we have patients whose crowns have lasted more than 25+ years.

Treatment

To place a dental crown, the tooth must first be prepared be removing any existing decay, old fillings, and a small amount of enamel. Using 3D imaging, we will create a digital representation of the tooth to help prepare the crown. With advanced technology, a crown can sometimes be created and bonded all in the same day, which will allow the patient to avoid wearing a temporary crown. This procedure typically takes about 2 hours with little to no down time afterward.

Yes, it is expensive. BUT I WAS ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY by Dr Lewis’s attention to every little detail, his passion to make your smile gorgeous and quality of work. Dr Lewis and his nurses are absolutely amazing. I have a condition that causes my enamel deteriorate over time. By the age of 25 all my teeth were covered with veneers or crowns. I also have couple implants. I have worked with various dentists in Houston area and abroad. Dr Lewis and his team have exceeded all my expectations by far. Dr Lewis has changed all my crowns and veneers, upper and lower teeth. He also had to readjust my bite due to natural teeth movements with age and work done by other dentists. I get tons of compliments on how beautiful my teeth are. I have never felt this confident about my smile. It has made a huge impact on my life. Not to mention how comfortable all my teeth feel, my gums are a lot healthier now too. They don’t bleed or hurt nearly as much as before I got to work with Dr Lewis. Huge thank you to Dr Lewis and all his team for a wonderful experience and amazing smile!

I visited Dr Lewis to have some old veneers replaced on six of my upper teeth. I had braces and my first set of veneers twenty years ago (I am 53) initially to improve the color and shape of my teeth and correct the midline between my front teeth.. The braces and veneers were only partially successful because my teeth were still too many and too large. I had run out of teeth that could be removed to make extra space to further straighten my teeth. Over the years I resigned myself to having a slightly wonky smile. During my consultation with Dr Lewis, however, I asked if he could completely straighten my front teeth, correct the midline and balance my smile by making the front teeth less prominent, He agreed this was possible. By using full crowns on all my upper teeth Dr Lewis was able to correct the position of my upper teeth so they are completely straight and all in the correct, symmetrical position and a healthy colour.. This correction has also significantly lifted my facial features and some of my acquaintances assume I have had an actual facelift! Dr Lewis is the cosmetic dentist to see if you, like me, have made numerous attempts to correct complex dental issues. He takes the time to discuss all the options and the reasons for presenting these options. He is relaxed and reassuring. It is obvious that Dr Lewis and his team care about their clients and want them to have the best treatment outcome. Dr Lewis is supported by an outstanding team. The communication with administrative staff including the office reception is the best I have experienced. Enquiries are responded to promptly by the treatment coordinator Christine. Rachel and Brenda did a wonderful job supporting me through the process of prep for 12 crowns. My husband and I will be continuing to use the Texas Center for Cosmetic Dentistry for all our dental needs.

As a former Dental Hygienist, I sought Dr. Lewis's expertise when I needed to have several anterior crowns replaced. He and his Staff took the time to create a beautiful smile for me which included veneers as well. I have had TMJ problems for over 40+ years and have worn through many nightguards and still had pain. My G-Lewis appliance developed by Dr. Lewis has finally given me relief from years of jaw pain. I highly recommend Dr. Lewis and his Staff to anyone who is searching for quality dental care.

Best Candidates for Crowns?

A dentist may recommend a crown for treatment in the following situations: to cover a severely cracked or damaged tooth, to restore a fractured tooth, to cover a dental implant, to replace a large filling when there isn’t enough natural tooth remaining, to cover a misshapen or discolored tooth, to cover a tooth after a root canal, to protect a weak or fractured tooth, and to attach a bridge.

How Long Do Crowns Last?

Dental crowns typically last 15 – 20 years before they become damaged or need to be replaced. It is important that the patient maintain a healthy dental regimen to extend the life of crowns.

Dental Crown Benefits?

Dental crowns help to alleviate pain as well as cracks, chips, and strains on the teeth. For many patients, dental crowns give them a boost of confidence once they see their restored smile. Today, most dental crowns are composed of porcelain or ceramic, which maintains a natural look and texture, matching the patient’s smile.
