inlays and Onlays in Houston, TX

Overview

If you have a tooth that is on the verge of needing a crown, we can offer you options for treatment that are considerably less invasive than getting a crown. At the Texas Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer inlays and onlays to our patients of all ages when a fragile tooth is damaged, but not badly enough for a full restorative crown. Also called indirect fillings, the inlay and onlay are special materials (gold, porcelain, or resin) bonded to the tooth to cover a large filling or the damage on the tooth.

The difference between the inlay and onlay is where the material is placed. A dental inlay is applied to the center of the tooth’s surface, while a dental onlay covers the biting surface of the tooth (also known as the cusp). This type of dental restorative can save a tooth from being restored through a more extensive crown process, and our goal is to help you strengthen your natural teeth when possible. Dr. Lewis and his team of cosmetic dentists have many years of experience in blending inlay and onlay restoratives to look gorgeous within a smile. Call and schedule a consultation with us today in Houston or The Woodlands, TX.

Treatment

We can provide you with a dental inlay or onlay in 2 visits to our office. At the first visit, your dentist will prepare the tooth, make and impression of the tooth, and send the information to our dental laboratory to be made. One the second visit, we will place, fit, and bond the inlay or onlay.

Everything was as always-- well done!

I had a wonderful whitening session. Procedure was very fairly priced and the entire staff was very friendly. I was in and out within 2 hours. Which is great for any whitening sessions. And my results were unbelievable 🤩 I would 10/10 recommend Texas Cosmetic Dentistry. Thank you guys!! Edit: 10 months later I had another wonderful experience with Lenora. (Forgive me if I said her name wrong, this was a few weeks ago) I called to see if they could fit me in for a last minute whitening appointment for my Wedding elopement in Las Vegas. We pretty much ditched the big wedding we had booked and took off a few days later! When I explained to the receptionist the circumstances she quickly put me on hold and got me an appointment first thing…. My results were wonderful as you can see here!!! I had plenty of stains from my Invisalign and they are minimal if not completely gone. Thanks again y’all for a wonderful experience 💛

How Do I Care For It?

You can carry on your normal oral hygiene routine at home once the inlay or onlay has bonded to the tooth. Please continue to brush, floss, and use mouthwash at least 2 times a day.

Will It Need To Be Replaced?

The inlay or onlay will wear down over time and may need to be replaced down the line. Patients should continue to see their dentist at least 2 times a year for professional cleanings and an annual exam where the dentist can check the integrity of their inlay or onlay.

What If It Is A Visible Tooth?

We make recommendation on materials based on the location and the visibility of the tooth needing an inlay or onlay. Our experienced cosmetic dentist will recommend a material that will blend naturally within your smile. For visible teeth, the dentist will usually recommend porcelain to maintain the appearance of the smile and resin for the molars, which will last longer against teeth grinding.

Protect Your Natural Teeth

With more coverage and protection than a filling, but a more conservative approach than a restorative crown, indirect fillings can be a great option. Your teeth are an important investment. Talk to one of our friendly treatment coordinators at the Texas Center for Cosmetic Dentistry today to learn more about this service.
