Overview
Few tooth troubles rival the one brought on by time: tooth deterioration and decay affect all teeth eventually. Worse yet, cavities are still possible even with good dental hygiene habits. Let our office at the Texas Center for Cosmetic Dentistry help you bolster your mouth’s defenses with dental sealant. A sealant is a thin, protective coating comprised of plastic or other dental materials, which coats the chewing portion of your teeth. With this coating, your teeth are protected from acid-spawning bacteria that festers from leftover food particles. Sealant has a lifespan of several years and you can rest assured that your teeth are protected against cavities. Visit our office in The Woodlands or Houston, TX to have a dental examination and consultation to see if dental sealant is right for you.

Treatment
The application of dental sealant is relatively quick. First our staff will prep your mouth by thoroughly cleaning and drying the teeth before applying an acidic gel. This gel essentially scores the surface of your teeth at a miniscule level to allow the sealant a better bond. After only a few seconds, the gel is rinsed away and the teeth are re-dried. Finally, the sealant is applied to the newly-grooved teeth and activated with a dental curing light.
Sealant FAQs
Where Do You Put Sealant?
Sealant is typically used to cover molars. As they are the rough, uneven back teeth, molars are a prime place for food particles to settle and therefore susceptible to bacteria and cavities. Your dentist will provide you with a treatment plan to get the most out of your investment in sealant.
Who Should Get Sealant?
While both children and adults can benefit from sealant, children benefit exponentially more so. Sealing your child's molars when they arrive can help prolong their oral health. It is also beneficial to patients who are more prone to cavities.
